Now that we’re all warmed up from the film festival here in Göteborg, it's time for Dance Bar #1 2012. The theme? Film of course! With guests Gunillla Heilborn and Mateusz Herczka, we take a look at the moving image as a medium for two different artistic approaches.

Gunilla Heilborn, one of Sweden's best known choreographers as well as award winning filmmaker, who in her work often reveals the space in-between people, between human desire and action. Heilborns’ unique way of combining text, motion, video and image, always spiced with warm humor and cool irony, positions her clearly as one of Sweden’s most interesting performance and film artists.

Mateusz Herczka
’s work has been labeled BioArt, New Media Art, Video Art, Art & Science, Concept Art and more. In his work the camera becomes a measuring tool, a way of exploring alternative forms of perception in his investigation of technology, science and biology as art. He also works as dramaturge with some of Sweden’s main dance companies, designing and exploring new systems for generating movement.

Moderator for the evening is Marika Hedemyr, choreographer and artistic director at Dansbyrån. She recently choreographed Masthuggsteatern’s acclaimed The Three penny Opera and is currently finishing the short film “Condition Confined”.

For this Dance Bar, we are checking the status of the relationship between dance and theater, and how they collaborate as art forms. With guests artists representing mixed practices and geographies, we invite you to take part in a discussion that takes a new look at an old topic!

In Sweden, this question is particularly topical, since an increasing number choreographers work in theatre productions and traditional theatre institutions are presenting choreographic work in their program. But how is the relationship from an artistic perspective? Is the distinction between the art forms dance and theatre, merely a question of methodology?  Or is it all contemporary performing art?

Vahid started his career in Iran as director of an experimental theatre group, researching on acting. In 2001, he left Iran for Denmark where he studied with Eugenio Barba and Odin Teatret.  Vahid has studied with several masters of Oriental and Western theatre. He is also the Artistic Director of Goossun Art-illery, an independent culture and arts organization based in Copenhagen and London.

Nadja Hjorton is  a dancer, choreographer and member of ÖFA-kollektivet, where she has done several productions. She works across the Nordic Countries and has notably done several collaborations with choreographer Halla Olafsdottir. Nadja was also Artistic Director for the course Norm Critical Interpretation at Teaterhögskolan 2008-2010. She is currently co-directing CRIME SCENES at the Gothenburg City Theatre with Carolina Frände, premiering 7/3.

Rolf Sossna is a director with his roots in physical theatre. In 1992, he founded the independent theatre group En Annan Teater/MasthuggsTeatern, where he most recently presented the acclaimed  The Three Penny Opera. He also free lances a for other theatres around the country and after 27 years as a director, he is now rehearsing his 49th play.
