Workshop with Mexican guests
On September 24, four Mexican dance artists arrive in Gothenburg, as part of mexican culture weeks taking place here in Västra Götaland.

Together with Danscentrum Väst, we decided to take the opportunity and organize an open workshop for professional dancers. The workshop will be in two parts where we pair up two of our Mexican guests with a swedish dance artist. The pairs will then lead each one session. No one knows what will come out of this workshop "piñata" - but we suspect it's going to be a lot of fun!

The grants for this year's International Residency were given to Roger Sala Reyner and Simon Tanguy. Together with Gothenburg-based Aloun Marchal, they work in the Dance Studio , two weeks in May.

Residency artists Roger Sala Reyner and Simon Tanguy together with Sweden based Aloun Marchal intend a danced dissection of the male partnership that binds them together. Being a partner involves exploring all the ways of being close or even of merging, if such a thing is possible. How do our three bodies manage to react instantly one to the other? What kind of alienation does this involve, when one of the three becomes the leader, becomes the fascist boss? What petty powers are thus generated and revealed? Their research is organized around three elements: A thematic element – collaboration and physical closeness; An aesthetic element – going to extremes; and a technical element – changing the perception of space.

Eddie Edvinson is occupying the Studio this weak. This Thursday, he is doing a work in progress on his comming performance V.E.M Världens Ensammaste Människa...... or, The Loneliest Man in the World.

Generations are growing up with a constant, enormous mass media feed! Online, cyberspace, always accessible, never unplugged! But if all these virtual technical attributes where to disappear, we can meet IRL, in real life .. to know how two people meet, greet and become friends?

V.E.M is a duet, essentially based on the unexpected reaction to the anticipated meeting ...!? A dance piece under development with choreographer Eddie Edvinsson in collaboration with dancer Johan Östlund.

As a choreographer in C/O Dansbyrån, Gilda Stilbäck will be working in the studio for the month of March. Together with the sound artist and composer Tomas Björkdal, she is finishing her coming performance Scented letters – a tribute to Alice.

“Inspired by the phenomenon Alice Timander, Gilda explores how fictitious characters like “the artist”, “the child”,  and “the self” represents or manages different layers of fear, needs of confirmation and rationalities, and how they in their different ways solves conflicts between the body and speech, feelings and intellect.”

Moa Matilda Sahlin takes a dive into history, to get back to the future and the studio together with Ulrika Bergman and Minna Kiper. In working with the coming performance Tiger Lucy, Sahlin gives calendar crunching free outlet, and captures personal moments in time through a feminist perspective on history. Did you see Profesora with Catti Brandelius? Do you read Bitch Magazine? Did you que for the release of Liv Strömquists Prince Charles feeling? Then tonight's showing is definitely  for you.

:: Paula de Hollanda gears up for winter with high-octane dance entertainment. Six dancers with a background in contemporary dance, jazz, afro, ballet, contact improvisation, samba, street, capoeira, etc. have been sharing movements and ideas during a couple of weeks in the studio with the aim to come up with a piece of – entertainment! Franky Lorenzo, Josephine Gray, Matilda Lidberg, Mike Gamble, Paula de Hollanda and Robby Rocha are all based in Göteborg, Sweden but work all over the world. Together with two awesome percussionists – Rolando Lara and Lars Rosengren – we invite you to come and enjoy the result at Kulturnatta 1st of October

Kettly Noël on residency at Dansbyrån Studio, August 16 - 29.
Kettly Noël is a choreographer and dancer who runs the festival Danse, Bamako Danse! which this year is part of the larger festival Danse l'Afrique Danse! featuring African and International arts in the capital of Mali, Bamako, October 29 to November 5, 2010

In August (16 to 29) Kettly Noël will be working in Dansbyrån Studio together with dancer Aly Karembé. Kettly's residency is a part of the Gothenburg Dance and Theatre Festival and aims to initiate dialogue and cooperation between artists from Mali and Sweden (musicians, dancers and choreographers) in the form of an investigative work.

New residency in Gothenburg for international choreographers starting in August!
The International Dance Programme at The Swedish Arts Grants Committee opens in August in Gothenburg a residency for international dance artists.It is a long term collaboration with Danskontoret, Gothenburg Dance andTheatre Festival, Atalante, Danscentrum Väst and Dansbyrån. First out ischoreographers Rachid el Bandki from Maroco and Kettly Noël and Aly

The dance group Attakkalari from India is coming to Dansbyrån for a joint workshop. It’ll be an intense and sweaty morning in our studio, where we try to interpret and develop each other's choreographic language. Choreographers Jayachandran Palazhy, Attakkalari and Paula de HollandaDansbyrån presents, interprets and develops typical movement elements together with ten invited dancers from Attakkalari and Sweden.

We want to share the fun with you and invite you, and all curious people, to have a peak at the result of the morning's work, at 12.00-12.45.

Dansbaren March 4: GOT TO GET - FLASHMOB

You've probably seen it. You may have been involved. A large number of people suddenly do something unexpected, a kind of flash performance in public settings.

During this dance bar, we’ll examine the phenomenon flashmob. The gang from 365 THINGS will tell us about their and others' experiences of flashmobs.  Moa Company, Iki Gonzales Magnusson, Utopia, Fittcrew and Muscle & Hate Crew are also inviting you to be on the final dress rehearsal of the flashmob:

A choreography that everyone, regardless of dance style, dance experience or professionalism will be able to take part in. This flashmob will then take place on The International Woman’s Day’s  100-year anniversary on March 8 at Nordstan, Gothenburg.
