The duo Steinunn and Brian (isl) will visit Gothenburg this autumn, during their IDP residence. They will give work-in-progress, workshops and presentation of their works. Steinunn and Brian will also hold two open shows where you have the opportunity to learn about their choreographies:  Love Always, Debbie and Susan at Pustervik on October 28 and Steinunn and Brian DO Art: How to be original that appears 3 to 5 November at Atalante. During their three week stay, they will rehearse at the Studio.
Steinunn and Brian have worked together since 2007 when they debuted with the first work in their trilogy about love, sex and relationships: Crazy in Love with Mr. Perfect. The second work Love Always, Debbie and Susan came in 2008 and the final The Butter Face premiered in 2009th. The latest work of the duo, Heilabrot, was commissioned by the Iceland Dance Company.

Steinunn Ketilsdóttir graduated in 2005 from Hunter College in NY with a BA in dance.  She has a love/hate relationship with dance but wants to keep on doing dance stuff until she gets old and wrinkled. Perhaps it is this love-hate relationship that makes her art so cocky and liberating uncompromised?

Brian Gerke is originally from Montana but has lived on Iceland for the past years. He came to Reykjavik from NYC where he was dancing with Hilary Easton + Co., Juliana May's MayDance and Sondra Loring and Dancers. In addition to freelance dancing and choreography, Brian also teaches and is the director of the Contemporary Dance Department at Listdansskoli Islands (isl).

During week 43 Dansbyrån will meet five artists from GoDown Arts Center - an interdisciplinary art center in Nairobi, Kenya. It will also be a reunion between the dancer and choreographer James Mweu and Dansbyrån’s choreographer Moa Matilda Sahlin, though they met in 2007 under the joint project EATI (East Africa Theatre Institute), in Ethiopia. GoDown have many dancers that they’re working with, and the one questions that always pops up is: How you -  as a dancer and choreographer  - can get organized. Therefore Moa will present Dansbyrån's work and how we handled these issues.

GoDown Arts Center are invited by Nätverkstan as part of their project
”Kultur och entreprenörskap i Östafrika” (Culture and Entrepreneurship in East Africa).

Workshop with Mexican guests
On September 24, four Mexican dance artists arrive in Gothenburg, as part of mexican culture weeks taking place here in Västra Götaland.

Together with Danscentrum Väst, we decided to take the opportunity and organize an open workshop for professional dancers. The workshop will be in two parts where we pair up two of our Mexican guests with a swedish dance artist. The pairs will then lead each one session. No one knows what will come out of this workshop "piñata" - but we suspect it's going to be a lot of fun!

The grants for this year's International Residency were given to Roger Sala Reyner and Simon Tanguy. Together with Gothenburg-based Aloun Marchal, they work in the Dance Studio , two weeks in May.

Welcome to Work In Progress at 17:30 this Thursday!

"A partner is neither a comrade nor a friend, but is someone to whom we are linked and who will fall with us and will take us with him in his fall."
Residency artists Roger Sala Reyner and Simon Tanguy together with Sweden based Aloun Marchal intend a danced dissection of the male partnership that binds them together. Being a partner involves exploring all the ways of being close or even of merging, if such a thing is possible. How do our three bodies manage to react instantly one to the other? What kind of alienation does this involve, when one of the three becomes the leader, becomes the fascist boss? What petty powers are thus generated and revealed? Their research is organized around three elements: A thematic element – collaboration and physical closeness; An aesthetic element – going to extremes; and a technical element – changing the perception of space.

You can find out more about the trio in this pdf !
